Best Ever Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This macaroni and cheese, in all of it's buttery, gooey, cheesy goodness is surprisingly easy to make. I first tasted this particular macaroni and cheese several years ago at an all day scrapbooking event at my church.  One of the other participants had made this macaroni and cheese recipe to share, and it was definitely the best mac & cheese I'd ever eaten. When I asked Bethany to share her recipe, she obliged, and I've been making it at home ever since.  That day at church, Bethany made her mac & cheese in a crock pot, and that's the way I've always done it, too.  I will say … [Read more...]

MYO Magic Shell Ice Cream Topping

100_1681

This is one of those ideas that I saw first on one of my favorite blogs One Good Thing by Jillee. One of Jillee's readers had submitted a recipe for Magic Shell ice cream topping using Nutella and coconut oil.  Because I just happened to have both of those ingredients on hand, I decided to try it myself.  (I actually hesitated sharing this on my blog because the cocoa in Nutella is not Fair Trade.  That is one reason that I will not make a habit of buying this product.) On Jillee's blog, the reader who submitted the hint advised using two parts coconut oil to one part Nutella.  I tried … [Read more...]

Favorite Sweet & Salty Autumn Treat

I first heard about this easy sweet and salty snack from one of my online frugal friends.  When she shared the "recipe" with our online frugal community ten or so years ago, I had never before heard of this combination. Can you guess what this treat might be?  It has only two ingredients, and it's possible to whip up a batch in less than a minute. The two ingredients are candy corn and salted peanuts.   Dump both ingredients in a bowl or container, mix, and enjoy!     This treat looks good in a fall candy dish and is a welcome addition to any fall party menu. Your taste buds … [Read more...]

At My Grandma Knows, the month of August has been all about the food!  I hope these posts have been helpful to some of you.  To finish out the month, I'm going to share my method of keeping my Tried and True (TNT) recipes handy. Having a separate place for TNT recipes is one of those practical suggestions that helps me to save time in the kitchen.  I used to have all of my recipes in one drawer in my kitchen and a shelf of cookbooks in an upper kitchen cabinet.  This system was not effective since I would spend way too much time looking for a recipe that I wanted to use.  I can't … [Read more...]

Make Ahead Meatloaf

DSC00569

When I was a young wife, I wish that someone had taught me how to maximize my cooking time by making extra meals for the freezer. For that reason, I'm going to show you how to turn six pounds of ground beef into four dinners--one for today and three for the freezer.   In this post I shared some other strategies for getting a head start on dinner, but today I'm going to show you how to do it. Recently I bought six pounds of ground beef at Sam's Club.  The ground beef was marked down since it was nearing its "sell by" date, but that doesn't bother me.  I knew I wanted to make meatloaves, … [Read more...]
