I've started more Christmas blog posts than I can count in the past week, but none of them felt right. My heart has been heavy at times this month because of all the evil that is evident in our world.  My heart is also filled with joy because Jesus came into our dark and violent world with the remedy for my sin.  I have a Christmas pin with these words:  Jesus is the Reason for the Season. Hershey at Halloween … Horrors or Heroes?

Early this month, Hershey issued a press release vowing to use only certified  cocoa in all of its chocolates by the year 2020. Operation Christmas Child: An Opportunity to Give

What could be better than giving the one gift this Christmas that would bring a smile to child's face?  In our land of plenty, it's a joy to know that many children are not just satisfied but elated over one small shoe box filled with small gifts. Hershey Bliss? Not For Everyone!

A few weeks ago, in our weekend supplement, I found this coupon for Hershey Bliss chocolates.  I cut it out though I have no intention of redeeming it.  My intent was to share the ad with all of you chocolate lovers. According to this coupon ad, Hershey Biss chocolates would allow me to "indulge in an exceptionally smooth, rich chocolate experience".  What the ad doesn't say is that while we are here indulging in this smooth, rich experience, thousands of children continue to be enslaved on the Ivory Coast of Africa to harvest the chocolate for our indulgences.   What's so … [Read more...]

The Hunger Games on Election Day

First of all, let me just say that I had no intention of reading the popular young adult novel The Hunger Games.  The few comments I had heard about it caused me to pass it off as a novel that would not interest me.  Then one day, I  happened upon a blog post by Julie Clawson.  That name caught my eye since I had just finished reading Ms. Clawson's book Everyday Justice, the Global Impact of Our Daily Choices.
